Therapist Placement Opportunities

Clapham Junction, South West London

The Middle Ground Therapy Service offers placement opportunities for trainee therapists who want to develop their clinical practice within a clear, structured, and ethically held service.

Placements are offered within a face-to-face counselling service for adults, designed to fill the gap between free and means-tested services and private therapy.

The service prioritises consistency, boundaries, and thoughtful clinical work.

Who This Placement Is For

This placement may be a good for you if you:

  • Are in the advanced stages of a recognised counselling or psychotherapy training

  • Are looking for consistent, weekly, face-to-face clinical work

  • Value clear boundaries, structure, and reliability

  • Want to work with adult clients

  • Want to develop confidence in a well-contained service model

Who This Service Is For

The Middle Ground Therapy Service was created to support adults who fall between means-tested services and private practice. People who earn too much to access traditional low-cost services, but can’t financially access regular private therapy.

This offers trainees experience working with clients who are motivated, reflective, and able to engage in weekly, open-ended therapy, without the constraints often found in short-term or crisis-led services.

The Clinical Framework

Trainee therapists work within a clear clinical framework, with defined processes around assessment, risk, safeguarding, and endings.

Clinical work is supported by bi-monthly mandatory supervision & service oversight, with an emphasis on developing safe, reflective practice within agreed boundaries.

What The Placement Offers

Placement therapists typically work with up to 4 adult clients on a weekly basis, offering face-to-face sessions of 50 minutes at a time.

Therapy is open-ended, with review points every 12 sessions. This allows trainees to develop experience of continuity, relational depth, and endings within a contained structure.

Practical Considerations

  • Placements are voluntary and unpaid.

  • The Middle Ground Therapy Service operates out of our Lavender Hill office, which, unfortunately, is not step-free.

  • Trainees are responsible for their own professional registration, DBS, insurance, and external supervision arrangements.

  • Placement availability is limited and subject to suitability, availability, and service capacity.
